I assume that the variables b and B are meant to be the same. I am going to use b to represent both of them.
Begin by distrubuting the negative the quantities in parenthesis. (8 - 3 -b = b - 9)
Simplify the left side. (5 - b = b - 9)
Add b to both sides (5 = b - 9 + b)
Add 9 to each side (5 + 9 = b + b)
Simplify the sides of the equation (14 = 2b)
Divide both sides by 2 (7 = b)
Switch the sides of the equation to put the variable on the left (b = 7)

Thank you so much!
