An empty fuel tank is filled using a cylindrical pipe with diameter 8 cm. Fuel flows along this pipe at a rate of 2 metres per second. It takes 24 minutes to fill the tank.

Calculate the capacity of the tank.

Give your answer in litres.

2 meters per second

volume per second = 2(pi)r^2= 2(pi)(16) = 32pi m^3/sec

24minutes= 24(60) = 1440 seconds to fill the tank

1440 x 32pi

=46080pi

=about 46080(3.141593)

= 144,764.6054 m^3

convert to liters by multiplying by 1000

1 cubic meter = 1,000 Liters

= 144,764,605.4 Liters

= about 145 million Liters
