Assume your equation is f(x) = 8x2 - 6.
It's a parabola that opens upwards with a vertex at -b/2a,= -0/16 = 0 (axis of symmetry) when x = 0, y = -6.
Solving for the zeroes: 8x2 - 6 = 0. Divide by 2: 4x2 - 3 = 0 Add 3 to both sides.
4x2 = 3 Divide both sides by 4
x2 = 3/4 Take square root of both sides
x = ±√3/4, or ± 0.866.
You could create a table with two columns: one for values of x and the other for y (or f(x)) and plot the results on graph paper. Because the "a" term is 8, it's a very narrow parabola, so you'll need small values of x.
