If there is not a second restraint, the best method to use is guess and check. It will take some time, but not impossible. Since the total weight ends in 5, the number of 45-lb boxes must be odd. Multiple 45 by the odd number and see if the remainder is divisible by 80. There may be more than one possible solution as the previous tutor has shown.

Math, microeconomics or criminal justice
80x +45y = 1435
you need another restraint to avoid an infinite number of solutions
the only other restraint is x and y must be integers
which narrows down the possible solutions,
to two solutions
either
five 80 lb boxes and twenty-three 45 lb boxes
or
fourteen 80 lb boxes and seven 45 lb boxes
5x80+23x45 = 400 + 1035 = 1435
14x80+7x45 = 1120+315= 1435
or you left out another restraint in the problem
as it's posted, it's hard to believe this is a 10th grade algebra problem. It's a little too tricky, as written
