Hi Manny,
Find the height of the cone shown below if the volume is 3.6 cubic inches and the diameter is 1.8 in. Round your answer to the nearest tenth.
With word problems, find the information given, what they are asking for, and add any equations that you think might apply
Given:
- Cone
- Volume 3.6 in3
- Diameter 1.8 in so radius is 0.9
Find: The height rounded to the nearest tenth
Equations: Volume of a cone is V= π•r2•h•(1/3) where r is radius of the base, and h is height of cone
Use the information and substitute those values in your equation.
V= π•r2•h•(1/3)
3.6in3=π (0.9in)2(h)(1/3)
(3.6in3)•3 / (π•0.81 in) = h
h = 4.2 in
To check your answer, substitute 4.2 in for h and see if the volume is equal to 3.6in3
V= π•r2•h•(1/3)
V = V= π•0.92•(4.2)•(1/3)
V = 3.6
So our answer checks out
h = 4.2in
Hope this helps!!
