Hi,
Moussa delivered 3/8 of the papers on his route in the first hour and 4/5 of the rest in the second hour. What fraction of the newspapers did Moussa deliver in the second hour?
Given:
- 3/8 of total papers delivered 1st hour
- 4/5 of what was left the 2nd hour (Key here is the 4/5 are of what was left)
Find: What fraction (of the original amount) was delivered the 2nd hour
The first hour 3/8 of the Total were delivered
That means that The Total (8/8) - 3/8 were left
8/8 - 3/8 = 5/8 of the total were left.
The 2nd hour, 4/5 of what was left were delivered
4/5 of 5/8 were delivered (In math of means times)
4/5 x 5/8 = 1/2
So 1/2 of the original amount were delivered the 2nd hour
