The average rate of change for a function over a closed interval can be interpreted as the slope of the secant line passing through the endpoints on the interval.
For f(x) the endpoints are [3, .4(3)2] = (3, 3.6) AND [8, .4(82)] = (8, 25.6).
The slope of the line through those points is: (25.6 - 3.6) / (8 - 3) = 22/5
