f(x) = 4x + b where b= y intercept of the parallel line. plug in the point (1,7) to calculate b


7 = 4(1) + b


b = 7-4 = 3


f(x) = 4x +3 is the parallel line's equation in slope intercept form


graphically, it's the original line shifted down one unit, so the y intercept is 3 instead of 4
