Clare is using square tiles to tile a bathroom. The bathroom is a rectangle that measures 8 feet by 5 feet. The tiles come in three sizes: 3 inches by 3 inches, 4 inches by 4 inches, and 8 inches by 8 inches.

1. How many tiles will Clare need if she uses only 4-inch tiles? Show your reasoning. Draw a diagram if helpful.
2. Can Clare cover the space using only 8 inch by 8 inch tiles? Explain or show your reasoning.

360 4x4 tiles

90 8x8 tiles

8'x5' is 96'x60"= 5760 in^2

divide by 4"x4"=16

5760/16 = 360 tiles

divide by 8"x8" = 64

5760/64 = 90 tiles

although there's a problem with the 8x8 inch tiles

you may have to cut some up to match the 5 feet side,as 60 inches doesn't divide evenly by 8 inches
