I think you are asking if she drove 92 miles in 2 and two-thirds hours at a constant rate how far did she travel in one hour? Let me know if this is correct. If so this is how you would find the answer below.
In this problem I would use the formula D(distance) = V(velocity) X T (time)
1st: We know that: d =92 and t = 2 2/3
2nd: You want to substitute what we know into the formula.
Example:
D = V X T
92 = V X 2 2/3
3rd: Convert your mixed numbers to improper fractions. To that calculate the product or quotient and then the sum or the difference. See below
Example: Step 1 Step 2 Conversion
92 92 92 92
2 2/3 2x3+2 6+2 8/3
3 3
3rd: Now you want to divide the fraction by multiplying the reciprocal. So, take your conversion and invert 8/3 to 3/8 and multiply.
Example:
92 X 3/8 = ?
- This equation can be simplified by crossing out the common factors. (92 and 8)
New equations: 23 X 3/2 =?
4th: Let's write this as a single fraction by multiplying the numerator and whole number. Take that answer and put it over the divisor (denominator)
Example:
23 X 3 = 69
2 2
5th: Now lets write 69/2 as a mixed fraction:
The easiest way to do this is to ask yourself how many times can the denominator go into the numerator. Or simply divide 69 by 2 and then convert that answer into a mixed number.
Example:
69/2= 34.5 34 is your whole number with .5 or 1/2 left over
Your answer should be: 34 1/2
