Math, microeconomics or criminal justice
slope = 10/7 = (4+6)/(d+4)= 10/(d+4)
d+4 = 7
d= 3
Hi Navaeh,
Is slope 10/7 or 10.7? It isn't clear from your post. Formula to compute d is the same either way:
m= (y2-y1)/(x2-x1)
m=slope
x1=First x coordinate
x2=Second x coordinate
y1=First y coordinate
y2=Second y coordinate
Assuming the slope was 10/7:
m=10/7
x1= -4
x2= d
y1= -6
y2= 4
Thus:
10/7= (4--6)/(d--4)
Simplifying:
10/7= 10/(d+4)
Numerators are identical, so we solve for d using denominators:
d + 4= 7
Subtract 4 on both sides:
d=3
Now, if slope is 10.7, all values are the same except m:
10.7= (4--6)/(d--4)
10.7=10/(d+4)
Multiply both sides by (d+4):
10.7(d+4)=10
Divide both sides by 10.7:
10/10.7=d+4
0.935=d+4
Subtract 4 on both sides:
d= -3.065
I hope this helps.
