The question is in the description, since it's long...

A bakery owner plans to create videos to post on a video sharing website.

  1. The cost C in dollars to make x videos is represented by the equation C=0.25x + 10.
  2. The revenue R in dollars made when website visitors view x videos is represented by the equation R=0.45x.

How many videos need to be watched to make the cost and revenue amounts equal?

Is there a number you can plug into x so the equations balance? Thats the idea here. You are looking for the point at which the revenue and cost converge. The balance point can be described as 0.45x (R) = 0.25x (C) + 10. We pulled all those numbers from the information they provided. So, we know that there IS a number that can be plugged into x where they converge at that balance point. Lets try x=2 .90 = 10.50 Thats not it! What about x = 250? Now its 112.5 = 62.5 + 10 (72.5) Ok now the LEFT number it way too high. It would take an awfully long time to do those one at a time so how can we manipulate the formula to find X? Can we move all the X equations to one side, and all the other equations to the other? Can you talk through that (I will follow this thread)

In business, this is known as the break-even point. Any number less than this results in a financial loss, and any number greater results in a profit.
