Clara will use the spinner below to play a game.

  

Spinner: 2,4,6,8,10

 

A) If the pointer is spun 100 times, is it reasonable to expect the pointer to land on a number that is less than 6 about 60 times? Show or explain your anwer

 

 

B) If the pointer is spun 250 times, how many times should Clara expect the pointer to land on 2,6, or 8? Show the calculations you make

Each time the spinner is spun there is a 1 in 5 chance to land on any of the numbers.

In 100 spins you would expect to land on each number 20x since each spin is a 1 in 5 chance and there are 5 numbers, 100/5 = 20. If you wanted to know the probability of hitting a 2, 4, or 6 it would be 20 + 20 + 20 = 60

 

Since you are spinning 250x, divide 250/5 = 50 or the probability of spinning each number is 50. Since you want to know probability of hitting 3 numbers it is 50x3 = 150
