All of the letters in the word "NUMBERS" were put in a bag. What is the probability of randomly selecting a letter that is not a vowel?

 

Jamal wants to calculate the probability of two different events.

 

Event A: Flipping a coin and having it land with the heads side up

Event B: Rolling a cube that is numbered 2,4,6,8,10,12, and having it land with a number that is greater than 9 face up

In numbers you have NUMBERS, you have a total of 7 letters, of the 7

2=vowels (U,E)

5=non vowels (7-2)(NMBRS)

 

probabilty of of selecting a non vowel =total-vowels/total=7-2/7=5/7

 

in the case of the coin, the coin is 2 sided it either heads or tails so 50% heads, 50% tails, which is 1/2 heads or half tails

 

A). in event A tails heads up=50%/100%=1/2

B).

a cube with 2,4,6,8,10,12=6 sided cube(total numbers)

of the 6 numbers only 2 are greater(bigger) than 9 that is 10 & 12

so that is 2 of 6 numbers=2/6=1/3 or 33.33%

C). Event A is mor like to occur as 50% chance is greater than 33.33% chance. Event A occurs half the time while event B happens 1/3 of the time. Event A has only 2 chance either it does or doesn't, event B will take more time to occur as 4 of the six numbers are less than 9.
