distance = rate * time
And... you are given both, so you can just plug in and multiply.
I like to write out the units, too, to be sure they are consistent, and see if I need to do any conversions.
In this case, I think we can just go ahead and do it.
distance = rate * time
56 miles
= ------------ * 3.5 hours
hour
The hours cancel, and we are left with
56 * 3.5 miles
= 196 miles
That's a pretty fast-moving cat!

Use the equation distance = speed multiplied by time or d = s•t
You must make sure the units will match up and since we have miles/hour for speed and hours for time, we can go ahead and multiply. d = (56)(3.5)
