Let "n" be a number. Then the sum of a number and 3 is "n + 3" and nine times that is "9(n + 3)" so
9(n + 3) = 2
To solve, divide both sides by 9 to get:
n + 3 = 2/9
n + 3 = 2/9
Now subtract 3 from both sides to get:
n = 2/9 - 3
n = 2/9 - 9/3
n = -25/9
