      y = percentage score on the test

 

Since y varies directly as x, y = kx for some constant, k.

 

y = 55 when x = 44, so 55 = 44k

 

Therefore, k = 5/4

 

So, y = (5/4)x

 

When x = 56, y = (5/4)(56)

 

                           = 70

 

If Jack answers 56 questions correctly, then his score on the test will be 70%.
