Hi,
A grocery store flyer has red grapes 5 lbs. for $5.50. How much would you pay for 7 lbs. of red grapes?
This is a ratio problem.
Given: grapes 5 lbs. for $5.50
Find: Cost for 7lbs of grapes
You can set this up as equivalent ratios
Let x = amount you would pay
Cost / Grapes = Cost / Grapes
$5.50 / 5 lbs = x / 7 lbs
You can cross multiply to solve
($5.50)(7 lbs) = x(5 lbs)
$38.50*lbs = x(5 lbs)
x = $7.70
