the denominator = 0 at x=2 and x=-2 but I cant factor the top term to find out if theres a removable disconintuity or not

Try using the quadratic formula on the numerator. If one of the solutions is NOT x = 0, 2, or -2, then there is NOT a removable discontinuity.
