Rounding $76.06 to the nearest dollar results in $76. To estimate a 20% tip, think 10% doubled. 10% or $76 is easy, just move the decimal point one place to the left. That gives $7.60. What is really happening is .1 time 76.
Now double the $7.60 to get a 20% tip. Double the 7 to get 14 and double the .6 to get 1.2. $14 + $1.20 results in $15.20 tip. If you use a calculator and multiply .2 times 76.06 the result is 15.212 or $15.21.
