What states that the grapefruit juice is 100%?

The question specifically asks how many cups (of grapefruit juice) to add, which is 3.33 cups. Obviously, we would be using 100% grapefruit juice! :)

In mathematics nothing is obvious.

This does seem ambiguous since the question says “ I have 30 cups of juice” then only identifies 8 percent of the 30 cups as apple. Are we talking about 30 separate cups? The word Juice could mean a combination cups containing apple, orange, grape and others like carrot juice at any percent. The question does say “how many cups do I need to make it 10 percent grapefruit” which could imply that there is no grapefruit juice present in any of the 30 cups but it does not directly say that. I agree that nothing is obvious, I would ask the student for more clarity about the purity of the juice, what specifically is meant by the word “it” in “to make it 10%” and if it was correct to assume that there is no grapefruit juice present in any of the 30 cups of juice. Also, this looks very much like a question copied from another website about 30 cups of punch that was 8% grapefruit juice and needed to be increased to a punch that is 10% grapefruit juice. At least in that particular version of the question we are dealing with 30 cups of punch instead “it”. I hope you got some feedback from the student.
