Area of fountain

A circular fountain was built inside a square shaped garden. One side of the garden measures 20 feet

 

A) Calculate the are of the whole garden 

 

B) To the nearest square foot, calculate the area of the garden that is covered by the fountain

 

C) To the nearest square foot, calculate how much space in the garden may be used for planting flowers

the area of the whole square garden is 400 square feet. 

Area = L * W

Area = 20 * 20 = 400

 

the area of the fountain is = 100π (100pi)

Area of a circle is πr²

The diameter of the circle is 20 feet because the circle fountains goes across teh whole yard, so the radius is 10 feet.

Area = π10² = 100π

 

The area left over to plant flowers is 86 square feet

whole garden (400 square feet)  - area of fountain (314 square feet)

400 - 314 = 86

86 square feet
