Hi Doris,
Local hamburger sold a combined total of 804 hamburger and cheeseburgers
there were 54 more cheeseburgers sold than hamburgers how many hamburger were sold
Given:
Total burgers hamburgers and cheeseburgers sold were 804
There were 54 more cheeseburgers than hamburgers
Find:
How many hamburgers were sold?
Let h = number of hamburgers sold
let c = number of cheeseburgers sold
The Total Burgers sold was 804
So
h + c = 804
There were 54 more cheeseburgers than hamburgers
So c = h + 54
Now we have 2 equations with 2 unknowns and can solve
h + c = 804
c = h+ 54
I'll use substitution
h + c = 804
h + (h + 54) = 804
2 h +54 = 804
2h = 750
h = 375
c = h + 54
c = 375 + 54 = 429
We can check to make sure our solution is correct
h + c ?= 804
375 + 429 ?= 804
804 = 804 It checks out.
So the answer is Hamburgers sold = 375
Hope this helps
