Hi Tina,
Divide fraction numerator 5.612 asterisk times 10 to the power of negative 7 end exponent over denominator 9.2 asterisk times 10 to the power of 4 end fraction. Write in scientific notation:
(5.612 x10-7) / (9.2 x 104)
To divide these, one way is to first divide 5.612 / 9.2 = 0.61
Next you will workout (10-7 )/ (104)
For this you would subtract the exponents. 10(-7 - 4) = 10 -11
Your answer would be 0.61 x 10-11
For Scientific notation, you should have a digit between 1 and 9 as the first digit.
So you will need to move your decimal place 1 to the right.
This means you subtract one from the exponent.
0.61 x 10-11 = 6.1 x 10-12
Hope this helps!
