As with all systems of equation-type problems you need to create at least two equations. Here, you can do one for the total cost and one for the difference between the table and the bench.
1) T + B = 645
2) T = B - 55 or T - B = -55
Subtract the two equations and eliminate the T term: 2B = 700, B = $350
Then T = 350 - 55 = $295.
You can also use the substitution method: (B - 55) + B = 645
2B = 700, etc. (This method seems easier for this problem).
