Since you’re asked the probability that the artist will be a sculptor OR a photographer, you will want to ADD the find the probability that the artist is a sculptor with the probability that the artist is a photographer.

By definition: probability = ( number of desired outcomes) / total number of outcomes

total number of outcomes = total # of artists= 10+3+5 = 18

The probability that the artist is a sculptor = 3/18

the probability that the artist is a photographer = 5/18

Add the two to find the probability the artist is a sculptor OR photographer = 3/18 + 5/18 = 8/18 = 4/9

answer: 4/9
