Halle V.
asked 07/07/23my nighboor is wanting to redo his backyard. He’s removing old sod, bringing in new 4 inch thick layer of top soil, putting in new sprinklers, and reseeding his lawn. He thinks he will save money picking up the soil himself rather than paying the delivery fee. Let’s settle it.
after doing some measurements his yard is approximately 2,025 cubic feet. His truck bed is 80 in x 69 in x 20 in and has a capacity of 1800 pounds. The delivery charge from the store is $30 per truck load and the soil is $18 per cubic yard in 1/4 yard increments. The topsoil weighs about 2000 pounds per cubic yard. The store is 9 miles away and a 20 minute drive. His truck gets 17 MPG and the current gas cost is $3.79.
is it cheaper for my neighbor to have it delivered or to make the trip back and fourth himself? Explain please.
