HI..
If a mirror is 24in wide, with a 4 in frame around it, what is the total area of the frame?
Your question gives the width of the mirror, but not the length.
For the sake of helping you answer the question, I will assume the mirror has a length of L just to show you how to work the problem out.
The frame is 4 inches wide. So on each side of the frame it adds 4 inches. So 4 inches on the left and 4 on the right. 4 on the top and 4 on the bottom
That means that the width is increased by 4 + 4 = W + 8 inches = 32 inches.
The Length is increased by 4 + 4 Inches = L + 8 Inches
If you knew the entire mirror plus frame area, you could subtract the area of the mirror from that value and you would just have the area of the frame.
Total area - area of mirror = area of frame
A = L x W (area equals length times width)
Atotal = (L + 8) x 32
Amirror = L x 24
So you would solve (L+8)x32 - Lx24
Hope this helps.. you just need to know the length of the mirror.
