Jason is counting the number of cars that drive by his window.
He counted four times as many green cars as red cars.
If he counted 50 cars in total, how many of them were red?
Given
four times as many green cars as red cars.
Total Cars: 50
Find How many are RED
Let
G = number of green cars
R = number of red cars
Four times as many green cars as red
G = 4R (Think if there are 4x as many green as red, if I counted 1 red I'd have 4 green)
Total cars = G + R
50 = G + R
50 = (4R) + R
50 = 5R
10 = R
So 10 Red cards and 4(10)= 40 Green cars..
Hope this helps!
