Perimeter = twice Length plus twice Width

Area = Length times Width

A=LW, P=2L+2W

usually these problems give you two of the variables and ask you to solve for the other two

such as if Perimeter = 20 feet and Length = 6 inches, what is the Width and Area?

make sure you convert to the same units, L= 1/2 foot

20=2(1/2)+2W

W = 10-1 = 9 feet

Area = LW = (1/2)(9) = 4 1/2 square feet
