2s = 234
s = 117, etc.

asked 06/14/23At a baseball game a vendor sold a combined total of 200 sodas and hot dogs. The number of hot dogs sold was 34 less than the number of sodas sold. Find the number of sodas sold and the number of hot dogs sold.

s + h = 200
h = s - 34
s + s - 34 = 200
2s = 234
s = 117, etc.
s = number of sodas h = number of hotdogs
So s + h = 200
s - h = 34 as there were 34 less hotdogs than sodas
s + h = 200
s - h = 34
We eliminate h by adding these two eqns, so
2s = 234 and s = 117.
As s + h = 200, h = 83
