There are several tips I have learned throughout the years, but here is a simple list of seven that I have found are most helpful:
- Scan the whole room when you give eye contact. If it is a small crowd, make sure you give eye contact with everyone at least once.
- Use inflection when appropriate. Your whole presentation or speech should not be monotone. Also, humor is a great way to break things up and get the audience engaged.
- Hand gestures are important, but don't fidget. That takes away from the presentation and can be as distracting for you as it is for the audience.
- Your face can sometimes speak louder than your tone of voice! Make sure your facial expressions are relevant and meaningful.
- Be confident! Speak with conviction and persuasion. And don't get hung up on what people are thinking about you - it will definitely affect your presentation.
- Put in the preparation. Do your research. Give the audience time to ask questions, but also make sure you are prepared to answer those questions.
- Practice what you say before you say it. This can make a world of difference in how you come across, both professionally and as an individual.
I hope you find these tips helpful!
