You can not use the quadratic formula to solve a linear equation. The value of a would be 0 and force you to divide by 0 when using the quadratic formula. Instead you need to split the variables and constants. Subtract the 5x to the -x side making -6x = 1. Dividing by -6, we get the one answer of x = -1/6
