If a bag of dog food can last 4 months for one dog, how long can it last for 5 dogs? And, how many bags of dog food should I buy to last 12 months for 5 dogs? What is this type of mathematics called?

12 months for 1 dog requires 3 bags

5 dogs require 3x5 = 15 bags for a year

4/5 of a month for 5 dogs

12/4/5 = 12(5/4) = 3(5) = 15 bags for 12 months for 5 dogs

the math is called proportions, ratios or percentages

b/d = bag to dog ratio = 3/1 = 15/5 = a constant 3 times the number of dogs, for one year's food

assuming there is a constant ratio of food to dogs, i.e. they all eat the same amounts per time period
