Vipul is a 7th grade dyslexic and dysgraphic child and his teachers think it is most fair to give him time and a half to finish his work (rather than cutting the amount of work he has to do, even when he has shown mastery). It takes him 3 times longer to read and to write, though his comprehension and mastery are at the same as his peers. Every day he comes home with 5 homework and 4 unfinished in-class assignments, across his classes. They each take an average of ~45 for normal kids to do, though normal kids might usually finish in class work in school. Vipul gets home from school at 4 and rests for half an hour. He eats dinner for an hour, has an hour of rest/excercise/guitar. On weekends he is only allowed to do four hours of homework a day unless there is a big project. What time should he go to bed every night so he does not get behind in school? If his parents insist he does not do homework more than three hours a night, how many assignments behind will be be after six week of school?

The numbers you provide are unrealistic!
5 class and 4 homework assignments at 45 minutes each equals 6.75 hours for a "normal" student.
You say Vipul needs 3 times the time. That would be 20.25 hours!
Assuming each day the same amount of work, that is 101.25 hours per week
If parents allow only 3 hours a night (15 per school week) and 8 hours on weekends. For a total of 23 hours
Each week Vipul get 78.25 hours behind.
Does Vipul have an IEP?

I know this sounds crazy but I really want to go to the school with the mathematical proof of the torture they are causing at our home, with a student who aces standardized tests but who takes three or four minutes to read a single paragraph because blocks of text confuse him and get him lost. I can't figure it out but have tried.05/22/23
