use a graphing calculator, such as Desmos
for x=0
-1 =1
x=1
1-1 =3, 0=3
x=2
3 = 9

if there's a solution x<0
x=-1
1-1 =0= 1/3
x=-2
3= 1/9
solution is somewhere -2<x<-1
as that's where it switches from x^2 -1<3^2 to x^2 -1> 3^2
try x=-1.15
1.3225-1 = 1/3^1.15
about .3 = about .3
x^2-1 = 3^x
