Lucy takes 30 minutes more to drive 275 km in the 1st leg of her trip than it takes her to drive 300 km in the 2nd leg of her trip. 30 min = 1/2 hour
average speed for each leg?
d=rt is the basic formula. Distance = Rate of speed times Time
t = d/r
let R = Rate of speed for 1st leg
and S = rate of Speed for 2nd leg
then
275/R = 300/S +1/2
R= 550S/(600+S)
if 2nd leg is 100 kmph
1st leg is 90 kmph
plug in whatever driving speed seems reasonable for S, then solve for R
drivers in metric system countries may have a better idea what a reasonable driving speed is
(maybe there's a small little detail to the problem that got left out?)
