An animal shelter has a total of 350 animals comprised of cats, dogs, and rabbits. If the number of rabbits is 30 less than one-half the number of cats, and there are 20 more cats than dogs, how many of each type of animal are at the shelter?

r = (c/2) - 30

d = c - 20

Rewrite first equation in terms of c:

c + c - 20 + (c/2) - 30 = 350

Simplify:

2.5c = 400

c = 160

Go back and fill in rabbits and dogs:

r = 50

d = 140
