This year the senior class at High School A and the senior class at High School B both planned trips there. The senior class at High School A rented and filled 6 vans and 12 buses with 474 students. High School B rented and filled 6 vans and 14 buses with 544 students. Every van had the same number of students in it as did the buses. How many students can a van carry? How many students can a bus carry?

6v +12b = 474

6v +14b = 544

2b = 70

b =35 students per bus

v+2b = 79

v =79-70 = 9 students per van

6(9) + 12(35) = 54 +420 = 474

6(9) + 14(35) = 54 +490 = 544
