x+y=126 {a vender sold a combined total of 126 sodas and hot dogs)
2x=y (The number of sodas sold was two times the number of hot dogs sold)
so we have 2 equations here
x+y=126---------1
2x=y-----------2
solving x in eq 2 and using in eq 1
x=y/2
y/2+y=126
(y+2y)/2=126
3y=126*2
y=(126*2)/3
y=84
using y value in eq 2
2x=y
2x=84
x=84/2
x=42
no of sodas sold =42
no of hot dogs sold=84
