asked 02/24/23Digital Nouns (count? noncount? phrasal?)
Hi! I ran into something that made me pause to think today. I'm probably tired and it has a simple solution ---- One of my students wrote, "There are some Roblox." -- and my initial response is that you can't say this nor, "There is a Roblox." It's a digital game for the computer or the cell phone. Are there any up to date rules on digital nouns like this, or should it be considered as a part of a phrase? Or just simply as a proper noun? "I have Roblox on my phone." instead of "I have a Roblox game on my phone." ? Any sources I can look into for perhaps newer digital rules?

I think the problem is that the student should say "There are some Roblox games," rather than "There are some Roblox." Roblox is a single platform, so the answer depends on context. It is singular as an app.

I'd go for "I have Roblox on my phone". Two students would also have Roblox on their phone(s). It doesn't pluralize.02/24/23
