3j + 5a = 17

multiply 1st equation by 5, 2nd by 7 to get

45j + 35a = 185

21j +35a = 119

subtract

45j -21j = 185-119 = 66

24j = 66

j = 66/24 = 11/4

= $2.75 per pound for jelly beans

5a = 17-3j= 17-3(2.75) = 17- 8.25

a = 8.75/5 = $1.75 per pound for almonds

9j +7a = 37

9(2.75) + 7(1.75) = 24.75 + 12.25 = 37

7j+5a = 17

3(2.75)+5(1.75) = 8.25 +8.75 = 17
