I am going to assume the simplest form is y-intercept form.
1) Finding the slope.
The formula is m= (y2-y1) Where m=slope
(x2-x1)
Which isn't as bad as it looks.
Start with subtracting (-4,4) and (-1,3) Note you can also do
x= -1-(-4)=3 Important to remember: x= -4 - (-1)= -3
y= 3- 4= -1 make sure to subtract y from y and y= 4 - 3 = 1
x from x.
m=-1/3
2) Point Slope Form
So now we have a slope we can begin to make a y intercept.
y=mx+b
y=-1/3x+b <--- Plug in that slope (m) we just solved for
Now pick a point and plug that into the equation to solve for the y intercept (b)
I'm choosing (-1,3) (remember points are in form of (x,y))
3=-1/3(-1)+b
3=1/3+b
2&2/3 =b
now plug b back into our equation
y=-1/3X+ 2&2/3 This should be our final answer
3) Checking your answer
Plug in your other data point to check your answer (-4,4)
4= -1/3(-4)+ 2&2/3
4= 4/3+ 2&2/3
4=4 This means our equation is correct! If these didn't equal then we made a mistake along the way

Don't forget the x in "our final answer." y = -1/3x + 2&2/302/06/23
