"the sum of 6 times a number is 3 and 21" is ambiguous and might have a typo somewhere
the product of 6 times a number is 3 and 21
would be 6x =3+21 = 24, and x= 24/6 =4
or maybe the problem was
the sum of 6 times a number and 3 equals 21
then
6x +3 =21
6x = 18
x = 3
