x^2 < -4 has no real solution
x^2 is always > 0 never less than 0, never less than -4
square any real number and the result is always non-negative, either positive or zero
but you could solve the inequality for imaginary solutions
x^2 < -4
-sqr(-4) < x < sqr(-4)
-2i < x < 2i
