Math, microeconomics or criminal justice
(9/4)(12)(1/3) -2
= 9-2
= 7
two less than one-third of the product of nine fourths and twelve equals seven
SEVEN = the surprise simplification of the complicated convoluted expression.
Use PEMDAS to avoid making mistakes
"PRODUCT" means Multiplication
1/3 "OF" means multiplication
"LESS THAN" means Subtraction
9/4 "AND" 12 means Addition
PEMDAS means M before D before A before S
Multiply before Dividing before Adding before Subtracting
otherwise you might try to subtract 2 from 1/3 to get
1/3-2=1/3-6/3 = -5/3
then (-5/3)(9/4)(12) = -45
but whoever wrote the original sentence might have intended to mean that, unlikely though
