Jack bought 14 pears and bananas for $4.60. Each pear cost $0.35 and each banana cost $0.30. How many of each type of fruit does he have?

p+b = 14
.3p + .3b = .3(14) = 4.2
.05p = 4.6-4.2 = .4
p = .4/.05 = 8 pears
b = 14-8 = 6 bananas
.35p+.3b = 4.6
.35(8)+.3(6)= 2.8+1.8= 4.6
