Ex: 99/11 = x/(1/3) Cross-multiply: 11x = 99(1/3) = 33, so x = 3 cups

We know that 1/3 cup of syrup is needed to make 11 milkshakes. We are trying to find the number of cups, x, needed to make 99 milkshakes. We can set (1/3)/11 = x/99 and by cross multiplying we get

99(1/3) = x(11) as we cross multiply

33 = 11x after distributing

x=3 (divide both sides by 11).

So we need 3 cups of syrup.
