University of Minnesota (Computer Science)
Georgia State (Master's)
I tutor SAT, ACT, GRE , GMAT test prep, math 1-3, AFM, pre-calculus, high school calculus, prealgebra, algebra, trigonometry, geometry, German, and some other subjects.
I have been a full-time tutor for the past 5 years, and love my job! I am great at explaining difficult concepts and finding out what my students need to know. I want them to succeed!
For math, I have equations, graphs, examples, and sample test materials for each subject that I use to teach math concepts and problem solving skills. I make it easy to understand grammar rules and language comprehension. I teach simple test taking strategies that work. I help with homework and prepare students for upcoming quizzes and tests. I teach all levels of German language, including conversational, written, grammar, and business language skills.
I enjoy helping my students get better in their math classes and improve their SAT/ACT/GRE/GMAT test scores. Some of my students have learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD, autism, etc. I seem to be able to relate well to my students and help them gain confidence by using a teaching approach they respond to. I have many happy students and parents as shown in my reviews. Many of my students are repeat clients, or recommendations from previous and current students. I also have quite a few long term clients, helping them excel in multiple math classes and test prep.
I have 30 years of experience as a programmer, project lead, software engineer, and quality assurance manager. I have used mathematics in developing statistics programs, firmware, robotics, and financial software. I completed graduate level math classes, including Calculus 1-3. I have taught many computer classes to peers and customers. I am a native German with a Master's degree in Computer Science from Georgia State and an undergraduate degree in Computer Science from the Institute of Technology at the University of Minnesota.
Why should you hire me?
I have increased some of my student's grade averages from the 70's to the mid 90's. They proudly tell me about their better test scores and ability to understand and master math problems. I am knowledgeable, patient, dependable, experienced, and passionate about teaching.
I really enjoy the relationships I am building with the students and their families. As a riding instructor for special needs children, I have learned to be empathetic, give clear instructions, consider the mental and physical abilities of my students to bring out the very best in each student. I like to encourage each student's talents and skills and build up their confidence in the subject matter. I am very good at finding each student's strengths and weaknesses and helping the student understand math concepts not quite mastered yet. There is nothing better than seeing a student become confident in their math skills and their problem solving abilities, or watch someone become fluent in another language. If you are looking for a tutor that cares about her students and about improving their academic skills, and is qualified and able to teach a variety of subjects, then look no further. I look forward to meeting you! I tutor SAT, ACT, GRE , GMAT test prep, math 1-3, AFM, pre-calculus, high school calculus, prealgebra, algebra, trigonometry, geometry, German, and some other subjects.

I never write reviews because I'm rarely this impressed. Ursula worked with my 17 year old son for one month on weekends. I had signed him up for both the October and November 2017 tests. Ursula told me not to expect maximum improvement on the October test and to look forward to the November test. After only one month with Ursula, he improved his score by 120 points on the October test. It was unbelievable. He scored at the 93rd percentile. He's trying to decide whether to go for a higher score by taking the November test or leave it where it is. Ursula was a miracle worker with my son and he is not easy to deal with. She was worth every penny I spent and more. It is hard to pick someone randomly but this was one of my best (and lucky) decisions. Toni
I completed the wrong practice test, but Ursula was able to immediately solve all the answers as we went through them without issue! She also provided different and easier ways to solve a problem.
Ursula was absolutely amazing on our first session. She was patient with me and showed me step by step how to solve the equations. And even when I was struggling she stepped back and went about the problem a different way.
Ursula took her time and made sure to explain how to solve problems multiple ways. I haven't taken a standardized test in 17 years, but I am confident I will reach my GRE goal with Ursula's help and practice.
1 st lesson Ursula certainly knew what she was talking about...., there seems to be a good connection. My daughter Caroline looks forward to working with her.
Had my first lesson with Ursula, so far it looks good. I have to unearth several years of Algebra, Trig and other mathematical concepts that have been locked away and with her help it is starting to come into focus. I am glad I went to the one/one relationship with a tutor because I was in a GRE class and the method of instruction was not conclusive to my learning style. Ursula is also establishing confidence in my skills.
Ursula has been a God-send for my son. Her patience with him has helped him develop confidence and self-assurance. She has made math fun again! Not only has she taught him the skills that he needs, but has also shown him the importance of organization and review. His grades have improved dramatically since he began working with Ursula.
Ursula is very patient with me and is really helping me understand math. I'm doing much better in my Honors Math 3 class now that she is tutoring me. She is also helping me prepare to take the SAT.
My daughter said she felt like Ursula would be able to help her improve her ACT scores. She came home with homework and a study plan based off of today's lesson. She's looking forward to her next session.
I only met with Ursula a few times before my act. The few times we did meet I gained important knowledge for the English, reading and math part of the act! Ursula is very patient and responsive to emails!
Ursula was instrumental in preparing my son for the SAT and ACT tests. She is now working with my daughter. I would highly recommend Ursula!
We are just getting started working with Ursula, but so far our 2 sessions have been excellent. My daughter really likes the way she explains things and works with her. Very happy to have found her!
Ursula helped me with the GRE math portion. I did not have much time with her because I was taking the test last minute, but she did a wonderful job helping me understand basic concepts that I had forgotten over the years and has a very positive attitude. She is patient when I don't understand things right away and is able to explain all the information thoroughly. She is a wonderful tutor and I would use her again in a heartbeat!
After just ONE session with Ursula, she was able to help my son understand an important math concept, and teach it in a way that my son understood, which resulted in a DRAMATIC difference for him in his math class the very next day. She was kind and most helpful, and we will most certainly continue this multi-dimensional approach with Ursula to Algebra 2. THANK YOU Ursula! We appreciate your help, your professionalism, your understanding, and your service!
My son is enjoying the tutor sessions and feels Ursula is very patient and relays information in a manner he can understand.
Ursula has been an amazing tutor for me. Beside been very knowledgeable and prepared I've enjoyed her passion for the tutoring job and her friendly teaching/tutoring stile. I've learned a lot thanks to her and I'll certainly contact Ursula again for additional tutoring. I strongly recommend you contact her if you want to work with a great tutor.
Ursula has helped my son become more confident in pre-calculus, she is patient and makes sure he understands a concept before moving on to something else.
She did a great job in setting up where we need to start and listening to what I wanted to learn.
Heading back to the office after years away. Ursula was great got me back in the saddle with Microsoft Office. Overall great experience, hands on, very patient and easy to talk with and learn from.
Thank you Ursula!!!!
If you're looking for a serious tutor that is patient, caring and wants to see your student succeed, Ursula can help. Ursula had an action plan set from day one. She's a true professional with great knowledge and experience of working with students. Thank you Ursula for making a difference!
Initially my daughter was stressed out and confused. Ursula has given my daughter her confidence back and we are very thankful!
I am taking college Access 2013. Ursula was able to help me navigate thru a lot of things that I didn't understand. My greats we definitely higher because of her. Thank you Ursula.
Ursula contacted me immediately. Extremely accommodating . Very pleasant and knowledgeable. Jumped right to evaluation and course material. Most importantly she and my daughter connected and I think it will be a great arrangement.
Ursula did a fantastic job, she is very patient and answered all of my questions. Her English is perfect, and obviously so is her German. I'm sure that there are a lot of tutors that can speak both languages but not many that can teach as well as Ursula does. I am very happy with her, and would recommend her to anyone looking to learn German. Gut Gemacht!
This was my first time ever using a tutor so I really didn't know what to expect. Well I learned that Ms. Ursula was a very intelligent woman and she knew what she was talking about and was very helpful. She took her time showing me how to do my work and gave me examples that I could really understand well and they made sense. She gave me the confidence that I could do my work and understand it also. So if anyone is looking for a excellent tutor who really cares about what you are trying to learn Ms. Ursula is the right tutor for the job. On top of all this the day she came out to my house the electric had gotten cut off early and so she was teaching me in a dim hot house. So I can just image how she would be in a house with the lights on and the air. I give this woman her brownie points for a job well done. If I ever need a tutor again I will most definitely call her.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
With a Master's degree in Computer Science and working as a software engineer for many years, I had to use a lot of mathematics to solve problems. I have taken the highest level calculus classes in college, on the other hand, I am able to break down math problems into simple tasks and explain why specific equations or diagrams are used to solve a problem. Often, I can even show a student how an equation is derived. I can teach how to quickly eliminate wrong answers on the ACT test, find the correct answers quickly, and develop strategies for solving problems.
I teach ACT science test prep by giving you the best strategies to complete the test and by showing you how to interpret charts, graphs and drawings to get the answer. I have never chosen a wrong answer on the science test, and I can show you how to do the same.
While completing my Master's and B.S. Degrees in Computer Science, I had to take the highest level math courses, including algebra, geometry, trigonometry, numerical analysis, differential equations. While knowing the subject matter, I am also very capable of explaining concepts and able to make it easy to understand math.
I tutor Prealgebra, Algebra 1 and Algebra 2. I am very knowledgeable in all areas of math and have the ability to make it easy for you to learn the subject at hand.
I have a B.S. and M.S. in Computer Science and worked for several companies using C and C++ on Dos, OS/2, and Unix platforms. I published recommendations for portability, maintainability, and efficiency using Codecheck (to automatically check C code) from Abraxas Software.
I completed calculus 1, 2, and 3 in college, as well as 600 level math courses in grad school. I received A's for all three calculus classes. These were some of my favorite math classes along with algebra.
I have been a chess player for many years and can teach common moves, openings, and strategies to win the game. I would be an excellent tutor to teach beginning chess players.
Geometry becomes quite easy once you understand the relationships between lines and angles and figures such as triangles and squares. I can help you understand how formulas are derived, teach you basic concepts, and show you the best way to solve a problem.
I am a native German and have lived in the States for over 30 years. I teach German to a family with four children on a weekly basis. Depending on the needs of the client, I teach conversational German, grammar, vocabulary, spelling, reading, and writing in German.
I tutor GRE, SAT, and ACT test prep specializing in teaching and reviewing math concepts, learning the right formulas, and strategies for solving problems.
I have studied English grammar for 9 years. I teach English grammar to ACT and SAT students as well as to non-English speaking students. I am able to explain English grammar rules and teach sentence structure, use of punctuation, tenses, proper use of pronouns, and help with the most common grammar mistakes.
I am able to teach you Quantitative Reasoning of the GRE test. I can give you strategies for taken the hard copy and the online test. Currently, I tutor both ACT and SAT test preparation and I have taken the highest level math courses while completing my Master's in Computer Science. Most often, the students that practice for the test and use proper test-taking strategies obtain the best scores.
I am qualified to teach algebra at all levels and am able to show you how to solve math problems and understand why specific formulas are used. I can also teach you basic math concepts if necessary.
I have taken all levels of calculus, including precalculus, in college and grad school. My undergraduate degree in Computer Science is from the University of Minnesota Institute of Technology where I took engineering courses, including advanced calculus and physics with the EE students. I am very good at teaching math concepts and can explain how to easily solve math problems.
I have thirty years of experience with technical writing such as creating user documents, program documentation, design and functional specifications. Proofreading is part of that function and I am an expert at grammar, spelling, and comprehension.
I know how to teach PSAT skills by discussing test taking strategies, practicing problems on the PSAT test, and conducting and grading timed practice tests. I also have handouts and teach the formulas encountered on PSAT math tests. I currently teach SAT and ACT test prep and tutor PSAT, SAT, and ACT math and science.
I have a Master's degree in Computer Science and have taken the highest level math courses in graduate school. I have tutored students for the ACT test and yet am able to teach the very basics if needed. I teach how to eliminate wrong choices on the test and verify the correct answer quickly. I also demonstrate how diagrams can help with finding the answer and what strategies to use on the test.
Trigonometry is one of the many math subjects I teach. I am able to show you how formulas are derived and teach you the best way to solve a problem. Oftentimes, knowing a few basic formulas and knowing which ones to apply, makes it easy to find the answers. If necessary, I can help you understand basic math concepts to fill the gaps often present that prevent you from solving equations.
