Two solutions of salt water contain 0.06% and 0.26% salt respectively. A lab technician wants to make 1 liter of solution which contains 0.2% salt. How much of each solution should she use?

Amount of 0.06% solution = _ milliliters

Amount of 0.26% solution = _ milliliters

.26x -.06x = .2 -.06

.2x = .14

x = .14/.2 =14/20=7/10 = .7 liter of 26%

.3 liter of 6%

mixed to get 1 liter of 20%

.7(26%) + .3(6%)

= 18.2 + 1.8

= 20%

26-20=6

20-6 =14/6 = 7/3 = .7/.3

= ratio of liters of 26% over liters of 6%
